Audience:

State and local legal associations whose members may:

Goal:

As District 4 representative of the CYLA Board of Directors, Eric Lifschitz is seeking out support in the effort to obtain a commitment from the California Bar Journal Office to provide print space for CYLA member articles and CYLA advertisement soliciting submissions on a quarterly basis.

The following proposal outlines how quarterly articles in the California Bar Journal would further both the missions of CYLA and Board of Governors of the State Bar of California.

The Proposal:

In an effort to meet the continuing goals of the CYLA membership outreach and participation, Eric Lifschitz proposes that the CYLA engage the California Bar Journal to commit to providing print space for CYLA member submissions of articles on a regular basis. The space in the California Bar Journal shall be designated for approved CYLA members' articles and for advertising for more CYLA members to become involved in the organization.

This proposal would work to further engage CYLA members to participate, to provide quality information to new members practicing law, to heighten awareness of the CYLA existence and membership resources, and to increase awareness of the California Bar website and its’ e-journal publication.

The commitment of quarterly publication space for CYLA members in the Journal would encourage new attorneys to submit articles for publication, and will add a distinct new voice to the Bar Journal. The article topics would cover a broad range of issues that affect new and young California Bar Members practicing law in California. Articles would be submitted for review through the CYLA website, thus increasing the website activity which will further promote awareness of CYLA.

The CYLA website could make an announcement encouraging its members to submit articles for publication. The CYLA Board and a Representative of the Journal could review all submissions. The Journal Editorial Board would retain the final editorial decision of the article topic and final revisions with the CYLA author.</p>
